Ollerton win Skegness Veterans Plate Competition

The Ollerton veterans managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, narrowly losing to Skegness in the opening game 19-12 and qualified for the Plate competition.
Ollerton's next opponents were Westwood who controlled the game very well with some strong forward play and were the first to have points on the board.
Once Ollerton decided to move the ball, the tries followed with hooker Steve Wallis opening the scoring followed by winger Eric Cranmer, full back Martin Kirk and second row Pat White.
Final Score 25-5
Ollerton's opponents in the final were a strong combination Peterborough/Stamford side who had beaten Market Deeping in the other semi final.
Ollerton got off to a great start with Winger Eric Cranmer making a break with centre Kev Wild in close support, the Ollerton winger was bought down by a high tackle and the ref had no option but to award a penalty try which was converted 7-0
Ollerton's tactics of not giving the Peterborough/Stamford side any space at all worked very well and a superb cover tackle by hooker Steve Wallis on the opposition centre seemed to lift Ollerton who went on to control the game throughout.
Further tries came from number eight Mark Laughton, winger Eric Cranmer and flanker Martin Hemsall which ended a superb all round team effort.
