| How the Absent
Friends cup was snatched from the Young Uns by the Old Uns...
It was a highly entertaining game with the
Young Uns on top for long spells but unable to "turn the
screw" (got to love them clichés). They certainly gave the Old
Uns a shock shoving them back in the scrums as they did early on
until the big guns such as Wally and Laught came on.
Not sure in what order the try's came, but Luke managed to cover ten metres in about 0.5 of a second (Not off Side !) to intercept our boy Ezz's pass and was chased all the way back to the posts by Wally, who's legs were going like bees wings! If he had caught him he would still be talking about it now !!
The old un's replied with a perfect Steve Hallam/Kirky combination that saw kirky scoring under the posts.Somewhere in between Chris Ford nipped in for one but it didn't really matter as DEEP in injury time at the end of the
game, instead of finding touch an un-named player (Ryan) sliced a clearance
into the arms of Ezza 20 meters from the line with only 2 defenders
to beat. A side-step here and (shock horror) dummy there and it was
all over, the experienced effervescent winger used his years of experience to cross in the
corner and seal a slim victory for the old un's.
The game finished an unconfirmed 22-21 to round off one
of the best and most enjoyable Boxing Day matches for many a year.
