Match Report: 5th March 2005

First team: OLLERTON 10 LONG EATON 13
Ollerton played hosts in this NLD Plate semi-final. With snow under foot this was a close fought classic cup tie with Ollerton narrowly losing to an extra time drop goal. Long Eaton were first to draw blood with a try in the corner from their 2nd Row, after some good mauling work from his Forwards. Ollerton replied to this with Fly Half Rian Bartle releasing 2nd Row Darren Wilford who raced in from the half-way line leaving defenders in his wake. 5-5 half time score.
The second half was quiet for the first twenty minutes until match day sponsors Lime Tree Pantrys man of the match Eric Cranmer took a looping pass from Centre Chris Ford and outpaced the defence to score in the corner. Ten minutes later Long Eaton were rewarded a scrum 5 metres out and scored a fine push over try. Full time score 10-10.
In extra time Ollerton came close to scoring on two occassions with Simon Hayward and Richard Soar both coming close. In the dying minutes Long Eaton's pack nudged forward a couple of phases allowing good field position for their No.10 to score a match winning drop goal.
Second Team: Ollerton 2nds travelled to North Derbyshire 2nds and came away with a 17-17 draw. This was a great result for Ollerton and a good team performance. The first half was all Derbyshire's way scoring two tries and a conversion from their three quarter line. In the second half Ollerton stepped up a gear and played some excellent running rugby with Peter Oates being instrumental in most aspects of play. Ollerton's 2nd Row Gordon Leonard scored first in this half under the posts after a 75 yard jinking run after taking their 2nd half restart, converted by Billy Stevens. Then Ollerton's No.8 Andy Hinds crashed over after stealing ND 5 meter defensive line out. Derbyshire replied to this when their winger cut inside after a simple down the line back move. In the last 10 Ollerton's Centre Tony Round beat his man to score outwide. Man of the match was Ollerton's Flanker Bruce Bryan.
Third Team: Ollerton 3rds travelled to Newark 4ths and were beaten 15-5. This was a tight game with Ollerton's Forwards dominating. It was Newark's Backs that just had the edge running in two tries, one conversion and a penalty. Ollerton's try came from 2nd Row Mick Farn and Ollertons man of the match was No.8 Mark Emmonds.
