Match Report: 26th March 2005

First team:
Second Team: Ollerton 2nds entertained Amber Valley 2nd in this eagerly contested Pennant Fixture. Ollerton started slowly and were punished as Valley took the lead with a penalty, 3-0. Ollerton then started getting good ball to the backs but just couldn’t find the killer instinct to turn possession in to points. Man of the Match Ryan Bartle and Luke Dymyd both came close to scoring out wide but good defense saw Valley survive. Amber Valley increased their lead with a well worked forwards try. They secured the ball in open play, setting up a rolling maul that saw flanker Dave Cates touch down under the posts, not converted. Half time, 8-0.

Ollerton came out in the second half after a stern talking to and started to play a little more. They soon reduced the deficit to 8-5 through Darren Wilford who took the ball from a line out and was able to score after a good stack and drive by the Ollerton forwards. Valley extended their lead with another penalty and it was all left to do for Ollerton. They pushed hard for the winning points but again couldn’t crack excellent Valley defense. Luke Dymyd did score in the corner as he joined in the back line from full-back but the resultant conversion was just out of reach. Final score 11-10 to Amber Valley.
Third Team: Ollerton 3rds travelled to North Derbyshire to take on their 3rd XV. The first half was evenly contested with North having the upper hand going in 5-0 up. The second half was less competitive with North Derbyshire flashing the ball around taking their points tally to 43. One bright moment for Ollerton came from Jeff Raine who intercepted a pass to run in a try from 30 meters, although this distance may have increased as the day went on. Tony Storrs converted the try and the game finished up 43-7.
