Match Report: 26th February 2005

First team: OLLERTON 17 STAMFORD 14.
Ollerton played hosts to high flyers Stamford who are third in this NLD Leics league and came out winners with a great front five forward display. It was very close in the first 20 minutes with both sides attacking well. Ollerton broke the deadlock with Lime Tree Pantry's man of the match Chris Ford scoring a well executed drop goal. Ten minutes later Ford again scored a fine individual try following some excellent mauling work from his father Fred. Converted by Kev Cogan. Stamford hit back with a cross kick from their Fly half, the bounce was in Stamford's favour and their Winger raced in to score, this was converted leaving it 10-7 at half time.

The second half saw Stamford step up a gear and attack Ollerton's try line, however great defence from Rian Bartle, Martin Burton and Sean Cogan kept them out. Eventually Stamford managed to breach the defence and scored a good converted try in the corner. Ollerton re grouped and No 8 Mark Laughton scored a brilliant opportunist try out wide rewarding him for his outstanding defensive work, touchline conversion by Kev Cogan. This was a much deserved victory for Ollerton and gives them a further 2 point cushion in this tough league.

Second Team: Ollerton 2nds travelled to Stamford 2nds and fell 22-0. The windy, wet, muddy conditions were a telling factor in this encounter. Stamford won the toss and opted to play with the wind and rain at their backs. This resulted in Ollerton being pinned in their own half for long periods finding it impossible to kick against the strong wind and hampered with running the ball by the pitch that resembled a mud bath. The first half was tight with Ollerton defending well thanks to some good hard tackling from man of the match Richard Atkins and centre Kev Wild. Ollerton came close to scoring twice with Flankers Bruce Bryan and Allan Black being held up over the try line. Stamford scored 1 try in the corner, half time score 5-0. In the second half Stamford's backs just had the edge running in 3 further tries. Ollerton's man of the match was wing come prop Richard Atkins.
Third Team: Ollerton 3rds played All Spartans at home and were victorious 15-5. This was a close game with both sides playing some good open rugby. Ollerton's pack had the edge on the day with Veterans Jeff Raine and Mark Woods being instrumental. Ollerton's try scorers were Dave Price, Nathan Kirk and Steve Sheppard. Man of the match was Ez Cranmer. Spartan's try was scored by their Centre.
