Match Report:
23rd April 2005 |
| First team:
Ollerton’s final set of competitive fixtures for
the season mirrored many of the weekends through out the season with
all 3 teams being beat. After a few weeks reflecting on what has been
an incredibly difficult season, preseason training and all the hard
work begins again. The 1st team finished their league
campaign off against a Buxton side comfortably sat in midtable.
Ollerton started the stronger playing some free flowing rugby but yet
again were let down by silly handling mistakes. Buxton took the lead
against the run of play as an Ollerton attacking move 10 meters from
the opponents try line collapsed and a quick counter attack saw their
full back score the first of his brace. The first half was played out
evenly although Buxton looked dangerous when ever their excellent
young fly half got the ball. Half time 7-0. The second half started
badly for Ollerton as their number 10 hit a gap in the Ollerton
defence which saw him score easily and convert which took the score to
14-0. Ollerton then started to relax and put Buxton under pressure
with some excellent all round play and were rewarded with a try from
fly half Chris Ford. Substitute Number 8 Gordon Leonard fed Ford
directly from a scrum who hit the ball at pace to break 2 tackles to
score a deserved try. Ollerton pressed for another score and did
manage a penalty but strong Buxton defense held out. 2 drop goals and
a converted try saw Buxton extend their lead and final score to 27-8. |
| Second Team: Ollerton
2nds travelled to Southwell for a friendly fixture against a strong
Southwell 2nd team. Southwell ran out easy victors, 60 points to 5
with a display of controlled and organised rugby. Ollerton’s try
came from veteran all rounder Rob Berry who played this game at fly
half. |
| Third Team: A
depleted Ollerton 3rd team played Retford 2nds and were
beaten 28-9. Despite starting the game with only thirteen men they
held their own in the first half only trailing by a single point at
the break. They did manage to make 15 players at one point but due to
injury and ill discipline finished the game with only 13 as they had
started. Retford made their extra men count in the second half and ran
out winners in the end but were pushed all the way by a spirited
Ollerton team. All Ollertons points came from the boot of fly half
Tony Storrs. |
