Match Report: 20th November 2004

First team: OLLERTON 42 BOOTS 3 Ollerton win their first NLD/Leics league game in style with hat tricks from both wingers. Ollerton started this game a bit too eager and Boots were awarded a penalty after 10 minutes converted by their Fly Half. Soon Ollerton began to penetrate the Boots defence with man of the match Rian Bartle marshalling the three quarters well. The first try came from a long pass off Centre Chris Ford, this found Winger Eric Cranmer who touched down in the corner. Ollerton's front row of Richard Soar, Steve Wallis and Wayne Kirk won a scrum against the head then No 8 Mark Laughton picked up and released Cranmer who went over for his second. Just before half time Fred Ford made a break from the 22 metre line and found his Winger Steve Hallam in support to score in the corner 15-3 at the break. In the second half Ollerton excelled in their line-out with 2nd row partnership of Darren Wilford and Skipper Stuart Parker winning good ball, this gave quick ball out wide which saw Cranmer go over for his hat trick. Boots hit back but try saving tackles from flankers Clayton Butler and Nick Pearce kept them out. Then in the last 15 minutes Ollerton's fullback Kev Cogan ran in a fine solo try and Winger Hallam scored 2 tries out wide to get his hat trick after 2 incisive breaks from Centre Simon Hayward both converted by Cogan plus a penalty. Ollerton look forward to their NLD cup game away at Bourne next week.
Second Team: Ollerton 2nds travelled to Retford 2nds in the Notts cup and fell 17 - 10 in a bad tempered affair. In the first half Ollerton pressurised Retford, scoring a try from No8 Gordon Leonard who picked up from the scrum and raced 50metres to score, plus a conversion and a penalty from Centre Martin Hempsall. Retford replied with their 2nd Row scoring a fine try. 10-5 at half time. In the second half it was still tight until Ollerton's Fly Half Rob Berry was sin binned for fighting.  Retford capitalised on this and ran in two late tries to seal victory.
Third Team: Ollerton 3rds played host to Hope Valley 1st and fell 26 - 0. Although Ollerton never gave up Valleys three quarters were too organised and experienced.
