Ollerton 2nds were involved in a tough encounter in their friendly at
Ashfield. Ashfield came out fired up and took the game to Ollerton,
ending with a 20-17 victory. The game started scrappy until half way
through the 1st half when a slick move saw Simon Hayward get the first
of his 2 tries. Ollerton's full back made the break on half way to
feed Chris Ford who looped a pass to Simon Hayward who raced through
to score under the posts, converted by Chris Ford. Before the end of
the half some poor Ollerton defending combined from with strong
running from the Ashfield center's saw them go in 10-7 up.
Ollerton came out in the 2nd half and took the lead going up 12 to 10
when Simon Hayward got his second try after a powerful run breaking
several tackles to score. Good forward play from the Ashfield front
row secured plenty of ball for the scrum half to dictate much of the
play and they were soon able to retake the lead with 2 quick,
unconverted tries (20-12). The final score of the game went to
Ollerton 2nd row Darren Wilford who was fed from the back of a ruck at
pace and was able to spin off one tackle to score to the right of the
posts pulling Ollerton to with in 3. Ollerton pressed for the winner
but could not crack a determined and resilient Ashfield defense. |
Third Team:
Ollerton 27 vs 0 Ripley Rhinos
Ollerton's third team had a good win at home to Ripley Rhinos, 27-0.
Half time saw Ollerton go in 5-0 up although both teams should have
scored more points with several handling errors near the try line
meaning only 1 was finished off. Ollerton stepped up their game in the
second half and were able to cross the line 4 more times to take the
score to 27. The scorers were; Steve Hallam with a hat-trick, Sean
Cockayne and Luke Dymyd. |
